WWE is headed towards its biggest season of the year, as the road from Royal Rumble to WrestleMania will be filled with surprises. Meanwhile, a multi-time champion provided a major update on what's next for him.
Earlier this year, Matt Cardona returned to the Stamford-based promotion and signed a new deal with the company. The Indy God joined the blue brand and scored a win against Kit Wilson. However, the former Intercontinental and United States Champion's momentum ended when he lost to Trick Williams.
Many were under the impression that this marks the end of Cardona's singles run as a performer upon return. However, the two-time Tag Team Champion dismissed it and revealed what's next for him. He recently tweeted on X/Twitter that he will be in Saudi Arabia next week with the hopes of getting the opportunity to enter the gimmick match and eventually win a world title in WWE.
"The last time I was in a #RoyalRumble match was 2015…over 10 years ago! I’ve had new gear ready every year…even for the 5 years I wasn’t even in @wwe. I’ll be in Saudi Arabia next week…gear is packed…I’m ALWAYZ READY! If I’m in it, I’ll do whatever I can to throw every opponent over the top rope and head to WrestleMania! 1 more championship to win…I’M NOT FINISHED!," Cardona tweeted on X.
Matt Cardona is one title away from becoming a WWE Men's Grand Slam Champion
In 2008, he and Curt Hawkins teamed up and captured the WWE Tag Team Championship and dominated the brand as members of La Familia alongside Edge and Vickie Guerrero. Later, he went on a singles journey and got widely popular due to his YouTube series.
The popularity forced the company to push him, and he won the United States Championship. In 2016, he won a Ladder match at WrestleMania 32 and won the Intercontinental Championship only to lose it a day later on Monday Night RAW to The Miz.
Last year, John Cena closed his career successfully when he became a Men's Grand Slam Champion. Matt Cardona can also join the illustrious list if he wins a world title in the Stamford-based promotion. It'll be interesting to see if he can achieve the feat in the coming months or years.
