Back at WrestleMania 41, the main event saw Cena win the WWE Title from Rhodes thanks to help from Travis Scott.
With Cena having retained against Randy Orton and CM Punk since then, Rhodes won the King of the Ring tournament to earn a rematch at SummerSlam on August 2/3.
However, an extra detail was added to the match during last night’s July 18 episode of WWE SmackDown.
Cena and Rhodes were set for a contract signing segment in the ring, during which Cena made an announcement.
He claimed that due to the physical and mental exhaustion of being involved in so many projects, including a big Netflix movie, he wouldn’t be able to wrestle at SummerSlam.
After explaining this, he simply walked out of the ring and headed to the back, but Rhodes was having none of it.
He chased Cena up the ramp, dragged him back to the ring, and eventually splashed him through the table before forcing him to sign the contract.
After that, he announced that one thing Cena didn’t realize was that their match at SummerSlam isn’t just a title match, but it’s actually a street fight.
